The summer months bring endless hours of recruiting to the Ohio State football staff. Nothing new to Urban Meyer and crew, the coaching staff will be hitting the road heading all over the country checking out current and potential commits. With camps in Columbus on the Ohio State campus and all over the country, the momentum Ohio State has already will certainly continue.

Texas Two-Step

Positivity has been a common trend for the Buckeyes in terms of recruiting visits. The Buckeyes, as we learned yesterday, are set to host 4-star quarterback Tate Martell (Las Vegas, NV / Bishop Gorman) this weekend. The good news continued today as Ohio State received word that 5-star defensive tackle Marvin Wilson (Bellaire, TX / Episcopal) plans to head to Columbus for his first look at Ohio State next Thursday, according to 247Sports.

Standing at 6’4, 330 pounds, Wilson is the top ranked defensive tackle in the class of 2017 and the top prospect in Texas according to 247sports. When he was offered by Ohio State back in March, Wilson made it clear that he was more than interested in the Buckeyes and immediately wanted to make plans to come up and see what the Buckeyes have to offer. Urban Meyer certainly knows how to roll out the red carpet when it comes to important recruiting visits so this one could see the same type of treatment.

A solid visit for Marvin could really set things off between the two parties as the Buckeyes would certainly take a pledge from a top ranked prospect.

To make things more interesting, accompanying Marvin on the visit north to Ohio, current teammate Walker Little will also get a taste of Ohio State. Walker, a 4-star offensive tackle in the 2017 class, is ranked as the 12th best prospect at his position and the eighth best player in the state of Texas. Walker currently does not have an offer from Ohio State and it’s uncertain if Urban Meyer desires another offensive line prospect due to a numbers crunch, but this visit can certainly answer those questions.

Familiar faces on campus

Time and time again we’ve said it: Ohio State’s 2017 class is absolutely loaded with top national talent.

Two of those stars hail from the prestigious Florida IMG Academy. Roommates Marcus Williamson, a 4-star cornerback, and Isaiah Pryor, a 4-star defensive back, made their way to Columbus yesterday where they were seen in the Woody Hayes Football Facility – which will soon be their future home.

Spotted talking with future position coach Kerry Coombs, Pryor and Williamson are two that the Buckeye coaching staff cannot wait to get to campus as they will be major talents in the defensive backfield for years to come. With several Florida recruits still high on Ohio State’s radar, Williamson and Pryor continue to be recruiting assets in the South.

Gill gets open

There isn’t a player in the 2018 class the Buckeye coaching staff is higher on than that of Jaelen Gill (Westerville, OH / Westervile South) – and rightfully so. Gill is a prospect in Ohio State’s backyard and the athleticism he brings to the table is second to none.

A 2018 4-star athlete, Gill is making his name known nationally. Yesterday, we learned that Gill’s athleticism was being honored as he is one of only six underclassmen to be invited to Eugene, Oregon to take part in the premier football camp, Nike’s The Opening.

As things currently stand right now, according to the 247sports crystal ball predictions, Gill is 100 percent predicted to stay close to home and play for the Buckeyes.

OSU staff in New jersey

Summer 2016 in college football is dedicated to satellite camps. Yesterday, Rutgers new head coach and former Ohio State assistant, Chris Ash kicked-off the tri-state football camp that would also host Urban Meyer and his assistants. Though this is a Rutgers event, Ohio State was able to be in attendance and check out newly offered 2017 athlete Markquese Bell (Bridegeton, NJ / Bridgeton).

As well as seeing other top talent in the Garden State, it was a chance for old colleagues to once again be on the same sideline coaching up the recruits. While Bell’s recruitment between Ohio State has yet to really open up, a visit to Columbus is almost certain to occur this summer if the two parties want to heat up the process.

Wilkes receives OSU offer

Yesterday, Ohio State basketball hosted 5-star prospect Kris Wilkes (Indianapolis, IN / North Central). The visit apparently went well as Wilkes was offered a scholarship by Thad Matta and the Buckeye before returning home. The 6’7, 190-pound small forward is currently the 11th best player in the country, third best small forward, and top ranked player in the state of Indiana for the 2017 class, according to 247sports.

As things currently stand, Wilkes is projected to head to a basketball mecca in Kentucky and play his college basketball for the Wildcats, but there’s certainly still time for schools such as Ohio State to make their pitch for this prized recruit.

The Maryland football program’s rescheduled game against Florida International in September is officially set for a nighttime kickoff, the Terrapins announced on Tuesday.

The Terps’ game against the Panthers was initially slated for Saturday, Sept. 10, before it was moved to Friday. Now the game’s scheduled for 7:30 p.m. on Sept. 9, and you’ll be able to watch it on the CBS Sports Network.

The Friday game in Florida might be a bit of a drag for Maryland, which loses a day of preparation during the week (though adds one for the next week). A Friday game also means the Terps’ coaches won’t be able to drop by high school games in the area on Friday night to evaluate talent, which they’d surely not have minded doing if their schedule allowed. (It’s not certain they’d be up for that the night before a game, anyway.)

Yet it should be good fun for Maryland to play a night game. The other one on the schedule is at Maryland Stadium on Oct. 22, when Michigan State plays the Terps at 7:30 p.m. on the Big Ten Network. The Terps didn’t have a night game last year.

No TV channels or times have been announced yet for eight of Maryland’s 12 games.

Michigan football head coach Jim Harbaugh has responded to the Order of Bulls Blood, the Rutgers secret society that vandalized Paramus Catholic HS before Wednesday’s satellite camp.

Harbaugh took to Twitter to fire back:

Earlier Wednesday, the Order of Bulls Blood issue a statement to Harbaugh and Michigan, urging them to stay out of New Jersey, the state that has seen the Wolverines pull some of its top high school football talent in recent years.

Rutgers and its fanbase have been feuding for the last few months now. New head coach Chris Ash teamed up with Urban Meyer and former employer Ohio State for a satellite camp that was held on Wednesday evening in New Jersey, as well. Harbaugh is also set to speak at Paramus’ commencement on Thursday evening.

Some thought the Wolverines ran the score up on the Scarlet Knights last season. They may do so even further if it comes to that during the matchup this fall.

According to KWTX, Dolores Lozano, the ex-girlfriend of former Baylor football player Devin Chafin who alleges he physically assaulted her, asked Coach Jeff Lebby for a recommendation for the position of assistant director of athletic marketing at Baylor. KWTX reports the email was dated Aug. 7, 2015, over a year after the alleged assault occurred.

Lozano writes glowing words about both the Baylor athletic department and Lebby, stating she “would love to pursue a career at Baylor because I admire Baylor’s convictions and mission to educate men and women for worldwide leadership and service by integrating academic excellence and Christian commitment within a caring community” and telling Lebby “You’re the best!”

Yesterday, former ESPN reporter Joe Schad posted on his Facebook page that Lozano said she was assaulted three times by Chafin and Coach Art Briles and Lebby both knew about the incidents.

Baylor graduate Dolores Lozano says former Baylor running back Devin Chafin assaulted her three times and multiple coaches, including former head coach Art Briles and current passing game coordinator/running backs coach Jeff Lebby and multiple other Baylor employees, had knowledge, but did not take sufficient action.

Lozano is planning to file a Title IX lawsuit against Baylor, claiming the coaches did not take appropriate action after hearing of the incidents.

Chafin refutes her claims, according to Schad.

Chafin told me: “The story has been falsely constructed. No one knows the entire story. This girl is not who she claims to be.”

Chafin said he never discussed the situation with former head coach Art Briles, but did with current assistant Jeff Lebby.

In his statement to Schad, Chafin also mentioned Lozano had emailed Lebby for a job recommendation.

Mark Schlabach’s latest too-early top 25 has the Georgia Bulldogs nearing the top 10, coming in at No. 12 nationally.

The UGA alum has ranked the ‘Dawgs higher in each edition of the TET25, beginning with No. 23, then No. 19, followed by No. 13 and now No. 12.

He says the latest edition will probably be the last before official preseason polls come out in August. Here are his latest thoughts on Kirby Smart’s team:

Post-spring outlook: Freshman Jacob Eason, the No. 1 pocket passer in the 2016 ESPN 300, showed off his arm strength in Georgia’s spring game. New Bulldogs coach Kirby Smart won’t name a starter until preseason camp (or later?), but Eason is in the mix, along with senior Greyson Lambert and junior Brice Ramsey. The Bulldogs are also being quiet about the health of tailback Nick Chubb, who is recovering from a knee injury. If Chubb is healthy, and the Bulldogs can shore up their offensive and defensive lines, Smart might be poised to make some noise in his first season as a head coach.

Who did UGA leap? Unsurprisingly, it’s Baylor, who fell from No. 7 to unranked. Perhaps Schlabach will have Georgia in the top 10 by the time we reach kickoff.

Alabama Crimson Tide head coach Nick Saban is heading to West Virginia.

No, Shane Lyons hasn’t pulled off the greatest coaching heist in college football history by stealing West Virginia’s own away from Tuscaloosa. Saban will be coming back to his home state to play in the Pro-Am at the 2016 Greenbrier Classic.

The Monongah native isn’t a stranger to PGA Tour events. Saban is a regular in the Regions Traditions Pro-Am at the Greystone Golf & Country Club in Birmingham, Alabama and has played in the AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am in the past.

Last week, the news broke that former West Virginia kicker and Indianapolis Colts punter Pat McAfee would join the Pro-Am field along with Shaquille O’Neal and Larry Fitzgerald. This week, The Greenbrier also announced that Mountaineer greats Pat White and Jeff Hostetler will appear in the 2016 edition of the Pro-Am, and will be joined by former West Virginia head coach Don Nehlen.

Other notable celebrities that are already confirmed to appear in the tournament are Cleveland Browns quarterback Robert Griffin III, New Orleans Saints head coach Sean Payton, former Virginia Tech head coach Frank Beamer and ESPN’s Seth Greenberg. NASCAR drivers Denny Hamlin, Danica Patrick and Michael Waltrip will also be in attendance. Duck Dynasty’s Willie and Jase Robertson will make their second appearance at The Greenbrier Classic and will once again be joined by their friend and co-star Justin Martin. Marshall University will also be well represented as Ahmad Bradshaw and former head football coach Bob Pruitt are scheduled to appear. Current Thundering Herd head basketball coach Dan D’Antoni will be joined by his brother, Houston Rockets head coach Mike D’Antoni.

The 2016 Greenbrier Classic will be held July 4th-10th on The Old White TPC course in White Sulphur Springs, WV. Weekly badges to The Greenbrier Classic are free to the public and can be reserved at the tournament’s website.

ESPN is doing a series choosing the most exciting player on each Big 10 team, and for the Michigan Wolverines they went with last season’s freshman of the year in Jabrill Peppers.

Peppers is considered the best athlete on the team, the fastest runner and the hardest hitter with an incredible football IQ. He’s also insanely versatile after starting at safety, returning punts and kicks, catching eight passes and carrying the ball 18 times last year.

But above all that is the thought Peppers can be even better in 2016:

Peppers moved to strongside linebacker this spring, where new defensive coordinator Don Brown hopes to use his athleticism to wreak even more havoc. The position switch appeared to go well, and it will be fascinating to watch how he adjusts to it early this season. There’s also the chance that Peppers could get more opportunities on the offensive side, and that he could ride his multi-faceted game all the way to a dark horse Heisman Trophy campaign, a la Charles Woodson in 1997.

It may be a bit far to compare Peppers with Woodson at this point, but he’s hard to match when it comes to excitement.

Paramus Catholic, a New Jersey high school full of highly recruited players, will be playing a game in the Michigan Wolverines home stadium this fall.

The reason? The school has a great relationship with Harbaugh — not to mention the recruits. Harbaugh is giving the commencement speech at Paramus Thursday, and just finished up a satellite camp there.

It won’t be long before Paramus makes the return visit. The school begins its 2016 season at the Big House Sept. 2. Among the players who’ll be on campus are four-star linebacker Drew Singleton, defensive tackle Cory Bolds and 2018 four-star quarterback Allan Walters.

Not only that, the game will not count as an official campus visit. Nice work.

Jabrill Peppers is a Paramus alum and the school’s former head coach Chris Partridge is now on the UM staff. Expect a few more Paramus players to end up in Ann Arbor in coming seasons.
