1. Idea -- we agree to just recycle the Golden Boot for scrap metal, and give y'all the proceeds towards BERT's buyout?

How’s the price of gold looking these days? That might not be enough to cover that buyout. We might just need a check from Uncle Jerry Jones for this one. Plus if we’re gonna scrap a trophy we need to kill the sponsored trophy with Mizzou.

2. What is the tougher choice for BERT: choosing between Austin Allen, the little brother of Brandon, and Cole Kelley, a lineman-sized quarterback, or when he gets asked if he likes Bud Light for being less filling, or because it tastes great?

We all know Bielema loves Vegas, he’s probably going with the QB depending on what turns up on his office roulette table. It’s how he makes all his decisions and is the only explanation for how TJ Hammonds is getting less than five touches per game. The Bud Light dilemma, however, is the kind of thing that will keep a man up at night.

3. Is it true that the Waltons plan on saving on Arkansas' next OC by just having a factory full of low-wage labor playing X-Boxes for 16 hours a day?

Of course not that’s ridiculous.

Arkansas is clearly a PlayStation school.

4. As is our custom for all Arkansas writers -- what is your favorite way to consume your own team's mascot?

I’ll take some good slow cooked pork carnitas over just about anything. Give it some good spices and put it in a taco and I’ll take it seven days a week.

Plus Bret Bielema’s World Series Connection

It is a huge weekend in the SEC, Alabama/LSU is the big national draw but there are some pretty big implications in the Arkansas/Florida game. The Gators can put some huge distance between them and the pack in the SEC East, or a Razorback upset could swing the door wide open. More on that and every other SEC matchup here.

The Gators haven’t looked unbeatable this season, but are very stout on defense and have climbed into the top 10 about as quietly as a team can. Bret Bielema and the two coordinators shared their thoughts about Florida and what individual players have been improving with the bye week.

For the past couple of seasons the Hogs have had actual hogs on their helmets in the form of the helmet stickers. The stickers have been a growing part of college football and Bielema went into a little more detail about them. They’re not just athletic achievements but also academic, they only get added after wins, and the bigger the challenge the bigger the reward for stickers.

With the World Series going on, the games in Wrigley are the talk of the sports world and even Bielema is getting asked questions about them. Bielema shared his memory of getting to sing Take Me Out to the Ballgame, during the seventh inning at Wrigley back in 2007. After some digging, video of it was even found.

Tomorrow Razorback soccer kicks off their SEC Tournament run, after being picked 12th in the conference preseason polls, Arkansas is the 3-seed, ranked 23rd in the nation, and will face Vanderbilt. The Hogs won their regular season matchup 4-0.

The University and the athletic department have kicked off a big campaign with the very important It’s On Us campaign that has been championed by Vice President Joe Biden, SB Nation and many others. It’s On Us was created to raise awareness and prevent sexual assault on college campuses and the University put together a nice video and organized events on campus to help education on the issue for anyone who can be there.

Now that Being Bret Bielema is out on ESPNU, many people are getting an idea of the kind of personality he really is. Sure there have been plenty of times he's made headlines for his quotes about nearly everything and everyone, but this ESPN feature really shows the personal side of Bielema. There is a clear focus of having fun in the football program, but also with doing it how he sees it as the right way.

Speaking of Bielema making headlines in front of a microphone, he's done it again just a week ahead of the football season. He made plenty of jabs at Michigan again during the team's kickoff luncheon. Bielema seems intent on making "Michigan" a verb, so don't leave anything early around him or that's the treatment you're going to get.

Out of all the preseason predictions, one place particularly high on the Hogs was the SEC Network. Clint Stoerner and Greg McElroy are predicting the schedules of all the SEC teams and gave the Hogs a 9-3 mark, and a 6-2 run in SEC play. The highlight of that was the prediction of a win over Alabama this season. It wouldn't be enough to win the SEC West, as they predicted that game to be Alabama's only loss, but just about everyone in Arkansas would take that season.

Get ready to hear about how Austin Allen is Brandon's little brother for the next three months. It will be mentioned on television broadcasts more than "Arkansas had the biggest offensive line in the world," from last season. But this article is a good look into how Austin is carving his own name and style onto the starting quarterback job. Personality-wise he is very different that Brandon, and we won't have to wait much longer to see how that translates on the field.

If you're close enough to hear the players on gameday, chances are you're going to hear Drew Morgan yelling about bringing the juice a lot. What does that mean? Well he explained it some here. Most importantly juice is a positive mindset to bring to practice and to games. Word is still out on how much it will catch on, but Morgan is going to do is best to make sure it sticks.

The Razorbacks scrimmaged for a little over 100 plays Saturday in Razorback Stadium in front of the media and a few fans. It was practices 10 and 11 of fall camp for Arkansas. Here are a few of the highlights:

The biggest takeaway for most everyone who attended the scrimmage was Devwah Whaley’s play. The highly recruited freshman rushed for nearly 100 yards on just 14 carries. He busted a couple of runs of 20 yards or so, and to cap his day, scored from 11 yards out after breaking a few tackles and running over a defender. He looked great.

Here’s what Bielema had to say afterward:

Devwah Whlaey finished around 100 yards for the scrimmage today. Bielema on him: “Today you saw that gear I saw on his high school film."

— Arkansas Fight (@ArkansasFight) August 13, 2016

Rawleigh Williams also returned to the field for full contact for what Bielema says is the first time since his scary neck injury against Auburn last season. He ran the ball 14 times as well for 67 yards. He also scored while the team ran through its red zone session. Bielema said he’d have been lying if he said he wasn’t waiting for the day Williams returned to the backfield, took some contact and had success.

As far as the quarterback play, Austin Allen (14 of 19, 151 yards) appeared confident and aware. Bielema said he liked the way Allen distributed the ball, finding multiple receivers during the scrimmage. Ty Storey received some praise from Bielema in the post-scrimmage press conference, mentioning how much he likes his intangibles. Rafe Peavey was limited and is only going one practice per day as he’s recovering from back surgery.

Cole Kelley has the biggest arm on the team. He took a couple of deep shots during play, connecting with a reserve WR for a score on a miscommunication defensively. He’s a huge kid, as you know – every bit the size of tight end Jeremy Sprinkle. Ricky Town didn’t get any reps with the first or second teams today. He’s likely going to be the fifth quarterback on the depth chart.

Storey 5 for 5, 62 yds, incl. 9-yard TD to O'Grady; Peavey 3-3, 27 yds; Kelley 5-12-1, 116 yds, threw INT to Britto Tutt on last play

— Thomas Murphy (@TomMurphyADG) August 13, 2016

Arkansas’ first team offensive line today: LT Dan Skipper, LG Hjalte Froholdt, C Frank Ragnow, RG Zach Rogers, RT Jake Raulerson.

Other news:

Kody Walker “popped a bit of a scar tissue” the other day and was pretty limited. He did have a nice run for a first down, though, early on. T.J. Hammonds tweaked his knee early in the practice. Bielema says it should be nothing serious.

Bielema said he thought the receivers caught the ball well. I was impressed with Keon Hatcher, personally. He and Allen linked up a couple of times for nice gains. One of the only drops I can remember came from Dominique Reed, who apparently rolled his right ankle and watched from the sideline the rest of the day with it heavily taped.

Jordan Jones, who coaches were raving about last week, was out dealing with a fever of 102, Bielema said. Dan Skipper, late in the practice, went down with a left leg injury, but came back about five plays later and seemed to be fine.

Arkansas superfan Canaan Sandy was in attendance.

Music was blaring from field level during the practice. Among the artists who were played: Taylor Swift, Eminem, N.W.A., Young Jeezy, A$AP Ferg. In case you were curious.

One of the biggest blessings of the Razorback offense last season was the consistency of the offensive line. It's rare to have five such talented players, and even rarer to keep them all healthy. This season the line has a few more question marks, and this article breaks down some of the position battles taking place on the line. There are a few guys battling for different spots. In addition to that it has a quick report on other things as practice is about to begin.

The signing of Montaric Brown was a big deal, Arkansas held on to the top prospect in the state, fended off Alabama for him, and got a player in a position of need. The article here talks about the importance of keeping the best players in the state. Bielema has talked publicly about getting those guys and it has usually turned into success for the team when they can stay in state. Tight Ends coach Barry Lunney talks about how important it is in the article as well.

Have you ever wondered about Bret Bielema's golf game? Well thanks to the magic of video, you can see his swing and its, well, violent. I'm not an avid golfer but even I know a swing coach would probably faint looking at that swing. Who knows, maybe he could get a few pointers from John Daly at some point.

There was some ProHog on ProHog violence this weekend in the major leagues. The good news was that James McCann had his first major league grandslam to cap off a huge first inning for the Detroit Tigers. The bad news is that it came off former teammate Dallas Keuchel. Elsewhere in the majors, Brett Eibner had a solid start to his major league career and has been dealt to the Athletics. To go from the defending World Series Champs to the A's, who sometimes have less people in the stands than Baum Stadium, is a tough move.

Arkansas now has two safeties committed for the class of 2017 after four-star Montaric Brown of Ashdown (Ark.) gave his pledge this afternoon.

Brown, according to Rivals, is the top-rated prospect in the state of Arkansas for next year. I’d like to think it’s a good thing Arkansas has been able to nab the top kid in the state of late.

The defensive back chose to remain in state over offers from top-tier programs like Alabama, LSU, Auburn, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State and several others. He's rated the 198th overall player in the composite ratings, and 247Sports actually ranks him 109th overall in the nation. Brown’s commitment now sits the Razorbacks at 18 for the 2017 class, which is pretty dang good considering National Signing Day is still seven months out.

He is a 6-foot-2, 172-pounder, too, and will likely bulk up a bit more in his senior season at Ashdown as well as once Ben Herbert gets his hands on him.

The interesting part about Brown giving his verbal to Arkansas was that a number of players, including recent commit Connor Noland of Greenwood, sent out congratulatory tweets first. Brown finally sent his own just after 4 p.m. confirming the news.

He also "scheduled and re-scheduled" his commitment date a number of times this summer, HawgSports.com’s Danny West says, but he’s now on board. Welcome!

Class of 2016 Defensive End 6’4” 250 lbs. Riverside C.C. (via Orlando, Florida)

Arkansas went under the radar to add one more (final?) piece to its 2016 recruiting class on Thursday with the commitment of juco defensive end Michael Taylor.

Taylor hasn’t been rated by the recruiting services, but according to his coach at Riverside Community College, Taylor was a full qualifier out of high school in Orlando, but ran track at a small school before transferring to Riverside to play football last fall. As a result, Taylor will have three years to play three instead of the normal JUCO setup with two years to play.

There were other schools interested in Taylor. He reports offers from Colorado, Wyoming, Utah State, New Mexico and others. He makes 23 commitments for the 2016 class. There’s apparently still a chance his enrollment could be delayed depending on some paperwork, but he’d then be able to enroll in 2017. However, the expectation is he’ll be on campus and part of the team this fall.

Arkansas isn’t particularly hurting for talent at defensive end, so it will be interesting to see what kind of role Taylor will fill this fall.

Quarterback 6’2’ 185 lbs. Greenwood, Arkansas

The Razorbacks landed a commitment from a very talented two-sport star Wednesday in Greenwood’s Connor Noland. The quarterback/pitcher pledged to play football and baseball for the University of Arkansas.

Proud to announce my commitment to play football and baseball for the University of Arkansas! #OmaHogs #Uncommon pic.twitter.com/Xb5xbYGSHH

Noland, who grew up in Greenwood rooting for the Razorbacks and former Bulldog Tyler Wilson, is considered a 4-star prospect and is regarded as the state’s top baseball and football prospect for the 2018 class. 247Sports ranks him among the top 10 pro-style quarterbacks in the 2018 class.

He split time in the pocket with Bulldogs quarterback Luke Hales last season as the Bulldogs claimed yet another double-digit win season, conference championship and trip to War Memorial Stadium for the 6A state title game vs. Pine Bluff.

Noland completed 73 of 103 passes for 872 yards and nine touchdown passes against only two picks as a sophomore for Greenwood. But he can also bring the heat on the mound, reaching as high as the low-90s with his fastball.

Noland received scholarships offers for football from Arkansas, UCLA, Kentucky, Memphis, Missouri, Ole Miss, North Carolina, Penn State, Texas A&M and others while taking unofficial visits to Notre Dame, Florida, Tennessee, Duke and Vanderbilt.

The rising junior still has two more years of high school to grow and get better, and there aren’t many schools across the state better equipped to handle stars than Greenwood football coach Rick Jones and baseball coach Trey Holloway, who pitched for the Razorbacks.

We’d also like to wish Connor a happy birthday while welcoming him!

Its watch list season, and the honors are starting to come in for Bret Bielema’s guys.

Along with Deatrich Wise’s addition to the Bednarik Award watch list, sure-handed tight end Jeremy Sprinkle is on the watch list for the Mackey Award, given to the nation’s top tight end.

He’ll be stepping into some pretty big shoes following Hunter Henry’s departure to the NFL and the San Diego Chargers. But it’s not like Sprinkle hasn’t done this before. He finished the final seven games of last season with six scores. Those six touchdowns were good for ninth in the nation.

He’s made some big catches in his career, too. Sprinkle was on the receiving end of Brandon Allen’s hold-your-breath two-point conversion pass in the third overtime against Auburn, and also caught three touchdown passes in the shootout against Mississippi State.

Sprinkle has definitely earned this. He’s improved each of his first three seasons, and is now the go-to guy at tight end – and we everyone knows Bielema likes him some tight ends. And not every day do you see a school have a Mackey Award winner one season then have another nominated for the award the next, but Arkansas is creating a monster at the position.

The Razorbacks are, after all, the only program in the nation with multiple Mackey Award winners – D.J. Williams (2010), Hunter Henry (2015).

Oh, and Jeremy Sprinkle is open in the flat again. Shocker.

Following a pair of solid pickups last week, Arkansas gained another today in Louisiana linebacker Josh Paul of New Orleans De La Salle. Paul becomes the 13th member of the Razorbacks’ 2017 class.

Per Danny West of HawgSports.com, Paul was receiving interest but did not receive offers from Ole Miss and Mississippi State. He did, though, have offers from Ball State, Jackson State, Nicholls and a couple of other small schools.

Before you become disappointed in his offer sheet, read this:

Paul’s commitment also adds yet another Louisiana player, which Arkansas has become quite good at the last couple of years thanks to Michael Smith. Per West, Paul’s pledge makes 13 Boot Kids since 2014.

We don’t normally put Texas pictures here, but when we do, it better be good news.

The Razorbacks might have just gotten a much-needed boost on the offensive line with the transfer of Jake Raulerson from Texas.

Raulerson will have two years of eligibility remaining and could compete for a starting position at center immediately. Arkansas’ previous center, Mitch Smothers, graduated and the Hogs had been practicing with Frank Ragnow at center in the spring. Ragnow had been playing at guard, and if Raulerson is able to take the starting spot at center, Ragnow could stay at guard. Raulerson can also play guard as well.

It’s no secret that offensive line has been a major concern for the Hogs this offseason since the team is replacing three starters and recruiting along the line has been inconsistent. Raulerson’s arrival should at least help alleviate some of those concerns. If nothing else, it adds to quality depth along the line.

Raulerson was also considering North Carolina and SMU as finalists. He was initially hoping to go to UCLA but wasn’t accepted into their MBA program.

From Burnt Orange Nation:

The 6'4, 295-pound Raulerson was a US Army All-American and the No. 2 center nationally, according to the 247Sports Composite rankings, prior to his early enrollment at Texas in early 2013. However, he arrived as an undersized lineman and was never able to consistently crack the starting rotation for the Longhorns.

In 2015, Raulerson was out of the rotation, but with Taylor Doyle's graduation, he was expected to once again step into that starting role in 2016. His departure left the 'Horns thin at the position.

If you haven't read our MLB Draft preview, to recap, We a few current hogs and current commits would get drafted and not come back to the program. Six current Razorbacks got drafted, Zach Jackson and Clark Eagan are the high profile names who are likely gone. Dominic Taccolini was drafted by the Blue Jays and could return. Carson Shaddy and Luke Bonfield were both eligible and went undrafted so they will certainly be back. Commits Ben Rortvedt and Cole Stobbe were both drafted early and will likely go pro, but those are the only two that are likely to not make it to Fayetteville. So overall the draft was kind to Dave Van Horn.

This past week was huge weekend for Razorback Track. Jarrion Lawson had a record setting day and the women's team took home their first outdoor title. We've covered those here and here, and there are still some great individual stories from the meet. After his record breaking performance, Lawson is now the favorite for the Bowerman Award, which is Track's equivalent to the Heisman Trophy. The award will be announced late in the year but voting will close next month so the #JLawForBowerman campaign is in full force.

The other story is South African's Dominique Scott. Read more about her successful career with the Hogs here. She ended it in a huge way, with the final race of her collegiate career she clinched the team title for the Razorbacks with a win in the 5,000 meters. Next up for Scott is training for the Olympic Games in Rio. She will join plenty of current and former Razorback track athletes from multiple countries there this summer.

What is the most critical game for Arkansas Football this year? Clearly every SEC game is going to be huge, but according to ESPN, that must win game is going to be the Texas A&M game. They are doing the series with every SEC team so check that out if you are interested. From the Hogs point of view it makes the most sense to win this game. The past two seasons Arkansas has been agonizingly close to beating the Aggies but haven't gotten over the hump. Doing that this season would be the set up for a big year for them,

Plus the first of plenty of season predictions.

This past weekend saw the beginning of the satellite camp era for Arkansas. Bret Bielema and his staff went to Little Rock for the All-Arkansas camp extravaganza on Sunday, and the Hogs were one of 12 in-state schools present. Clearly the amount of prospects that Arkansas looked at this weekend were limited, but Bielema says there are plenty of positives of having the camp. Promoting the Arkansas brand of football was something he was particularly high on. In the near future the staff will be going to other camps in some recruiting hotbeds like Houston, Atlanta and Florida, all areas that have brought some big talents to Fayetteville.

Between now and September there are going to be tons of season predictions, one of the first is here from Harry King. One thing you can always bet on: close games involving Arkansas this year, and how well the new faces get comfortable in new roles will be key. I for the most part agree with the games picked here, and think the overall record will be about the same. There is just one caveat with it, and none of the games predicted have Arkansas or their opponents going over 30 points, and last season showed us that is bound to be too low, even if the defense is firing on all cylinders.

Last week, ESPN listed the players with the best odds to get 1,000 yards receiving. This week they flipped it to the defensive side, listing who was most likely to get double digit sacks. Deatrich Wise is the lone Hog on the list. He finished with eight last year, and picking up two more won't be out of the question this year. The list also shows how insanely deep the SEC West is going to be on the defensive line this year.

A quick bit of baseball news, the SEC Baseball Tournament is staying in Hoover for next season. The future of the tournament was up in the air with bids from cities Memphis, Jacksonville, Nashville and New Orleans. While it would be nice to see some rotation among the host cities like basketball has done recently, the tournament did set an attendance record this year, so it makes sense that the SEC is keeping it there.
