Well, the sun did rise on Sunday. Monday, too.

Though I was sure it would, sometimes seeing is believing.

There’s no better way to explain what happened in Columbus on Saturday other than that one hurt.

“They are who we thought they were, and we let ‘em off the hook,” in the immortal words of the late, great Dennis Green.

So, given that, here are my three takeaways from Penn State’s crushing loss.

1. James Franklin and Joe Moorhead are great coaches, but both are fallible

Part of the dread of Saturday’s loss has to come from the feeling of deja vu that most Penn State fans suffered. Just like in the Rose Bowl, Penn State had a late lead and the ball with a chance to let one of the premier offenses in the country salt away the game, and the coaching staff balked. Rather than letting Trace McSorley go out and win the game, they played not to lose it and it bit them in the behind. Franklin and Moorhead have been integral in putting Penn State way ahead of schedule in its rebuild, but Saturday’s ending surely needs to be questioned.

2. Penn State still lacks the depth to be an elite team

There are many reasons the Nittany Lions lost on Saturday, but injuries played a sizable role. Defensive end Ryan Buchholz left early in the game with what looked to be a serious knee injury. Buchholz has been one of Penn State’s best pass rushers and run stoppers and it was unable to replace that production, particularly after Shareef Miller was hobbled later in the contest. Later, Ryan Bates got rolled up on and was forced to leave the game. While Penn State’s offensive line was far from great prior, it was at least passable. After the injury, the Nittany Lions were forced to move Will Fries to left tackle and put Chasz Wright in at right tackle and everything began to fell apart. If Penn State wants to compete with the big boys, it will need to continue to build depth up front in recruiting.

3. Saquon Barkley should still be the Heisman front runner

Barkley was limited greatly on the ground after an early 36-yard touchdown run, but his impact in the kick return game cannot be understated. His 97-yard return for a touchdown to open the game set the tone and gave the Nittany Lions a ton of momentum. Additionally, Ohio State had to change its whole kickoff game plan, allowing Koa Farmer to get a massive kickoff return of his own and putting Penn State in fantastic field position at the end of the game with a chance to retake the lead. Barkley is still the country’s most dangerous player with the ball in his hands, and that was evident.

One more accolade for Coach Franklin, and it probably won’t be the last.

Sporting News named Penn State’s James Franklin as their pick for Coach of the Year, adding to the growing list of accolades for the Nittany Lions head coach.

Franklin been named Big Ten Coach of the Year and David McClain Coach of the Year (as honored by Big Ten media). The last Penn State coach to earn Sporting News Coach of the Year honors was Joe Paterno in 2005, also the last time that Penn State won the Big Ten conference title.

Franklin is also a finalist for the 2016 Eddie Robinson Coach of the Year award as presented by the Football Writers Association of America.

In his third year, Franklin has guided the Lions to a nine game winning streak, an 11-2 record, the Big Ten East title (their second divisional title), their first Big Ten Conference championship since 2008, a College Football Playoff ranking of No. 5 (the highest ranking since 2009) and a spot in the January 2 Rose Bowl against USC.

Not too shabby.

Congratulations, Coach!

Early-morning musings after a disappointing collapse in Indianapolis.

Play of the Game

Wisconsin was up 28-7 in the second quarter when Penn State started to drive down the field. With 58 seconds left in the first half, sophomore quarterback Trace McSorley threw a pass to junior wide receiver Saeed Blacknall. Junior cornerback Lubern Figaro misplayed his angle and allowed the junior wide receiver to run 40 yards for a touchdown and gave the Nittany Lions some momentum heading into halftime.

That would lead to a string of five consecutive scoring drives, and Wisconsin—albeit for one field-goal drive in the second half—could not answer. Even if there’s a stop there for a first down, there could have been opportunities for Wisconsin’s defense to regroup and make a stop against what would become a surging Penn State offense.

This play did not lose the game for Wisconsin, but rather, started the pendulum swinging permanently toward Penn State in an uncharacteristically sloppy game on the defensive side of the ball.

Honorable mention: Bart Houston’s incompletion to Troy Fumagalli late in the third quarter due to Penn State’s pressure.

Game balls

Trace McSorley. Not much else really needs to be said here. The sophomore quarterback went 22-of-31 for 384 yards and four touchdowns with zero interceptions. He allowed his receivers to make plays throughout the game, and Wisconsin’s secondary did not have any answers for an explosive Penn State offense in the second half. McSorley and the Nittany Lions’ passing attack, which survived pressure and failed fourth-down attempts in the second quarter, decimated the Badgers.

Corey Clement. The senior running back had two fumbles on the evening that could have spelled disaster for Wisconsin’s offensive momentum, but he also had his best game of the season, rushing for 164 yards on 21 carries (7.8 yards per carry) and his 67-yard touchdown run in the first quarter. Behind an offensive line and multiple-tight end sets, Clement looked truer to his 2014 form than any other game this season. If injuries to Clement and the offensive line didn’t happen earlier in the year, it would have been intriguing to see what else he could have accomplished in the stats column (guessing higher yards per carry).

What to watch for

The bowl matchup. A lot of chatter about facing Western Michigan in the Cotton Bowl. If that’s the case, that’s a New Year’s Six Bowl. It could be against P.J. Fleck and his Broncos, and the Badgers will have to row their own boat against a raging current of kinetic energy who may (or may not) be with his MAC program next year. It’s also essentially a trap game where it could be a lose-lose proposition. If they do make it there, and with the projections many had for this UW squad heading into the 2016 season, it’d be a worthy destination. Where they go will be worth watching on Sunday. Stay tuned to B5Q for all breaking news.

Other bowls. Pretty sure the top four are set with Alabama, Ohio State, Clemson and Washington for the College Football Playoff, but where Penn State and Michigan end up will worth noting (will the Nittany Lions upend the Buckeyes or Huskies somehow?), along with the other bowl matchups.

Perspective. Wisconsin (both players and fans) should feel disappointed they were 15 minutes from a Big Ten championship and a potential College Football Playoff or Rose Bowl berth (entering the fourth quarter with a 31-28 lead). The Wisconsin State Journal’s Tom Oates admitted the collapse was the “biggest surprise in a surprising season.” Hearing post-game audio from players, this loss will sting and it will last with them for a bit, but as cornerback Sojourn Shelton noted, they’ll lick their wounds and bounce back for the next game. This team exceeded almost everyone’s expectations for 2016 with talk of an 8-4 or 9-3 season being the most optimistic of predictions with their “daunting” schedule. Now UW has a chance for its fourth 11-win season since 2010. There will be the talk of “what might have been” for sure, and it absolutely should be discussed after losing three games to top-seven teams Michigan, Ohio State and Penn State by a combined total of 21 points. Yet Paul Chryst has a solid coaching staff and only 13 seniors departing for a team full of experienced players returning next year. Fans should excited for next year, and also a possible Jan. 2 bowl that no one thought Wisconsin would get to.

More possible Walk-On This Way book signings. They won’t end (in a good way, promise!). Coming up in the next week or two before Christmas, hoping to have one with some more former walk-ons joining us (*wide-eyed eyes emoji*). We had a great turnout last Thursday at Mayfair Mall in Milwaukee with former punter Drew Meyer. Thank you to those who came out.

With several Penn State players already earning honors after an epic upset over Ohio State, James Franklin gets a well-deserved honor, himself.

The hits keep on coming for the Nittany Lion football program following arguably their biggest win in the last couple of decades, as James Franklin was named the Dodd Trophy Coach of the Week by the Dodd Trophy Association. The Dodd Trophy is meant to celebrate academic and athletic achievement.

With the victory this past weekend over a college football behemoth in Ohio State to go along with a school-record 56 players sporting a 3.0 GPA or higher this season, the selection of Franklin was a no-brainer. James from State College becomes the third Big Ten coach to be given this distinct honor, with Urban Meyer and Wisconsin’s Paul Chryst having also earned this accolade.

Congratulations, Coach!

It’s the coach’s first presser of the year—college football’s almost upon us, y’all.

Head ball coach CJF gave his first presser of the season, and he, like us, can’t wait for Saturday— “It's amazing to me that time has flown by and we're already in week one of the season. I am excited to watch the team open the season in Beaver Stadium starting at home.” Same, coach. Same.

Some nuggets from the presser:

According to Franklin, PSU has the 2nd fewest senior eligible players on the roster

Will Fries, Michal Menet and Connor McGovern are three freshmen Franklin specifically name-checked as young guys on the line performing well in camp

On Evan Schwan: “He's a guy that I think studied Carl Nassib and all the things that Carl did when it comes to sleep, nutrition and training last season. He’s tried to model a lot of the same behaviors and I think it's really paid off for him.” Giggity.

He’s expecting Mike Gesicki to have a breakout year—and with Nick Bowers out (Franklin confirmed he’s out with injury for the full season) this should be #88’s year. Tom Pancoast has also stepped up for the TEs.

Even though Alex Barbir is third on the depth chart, he was name-dropped as helping out special teams—even if only in competition

Curtis Cothren is still “in the mix” even though he wasn’t on the depth chart

Changes on defense might get fans excited if they work— “Having a little bit more personality, defensively, being able to disguise some things. And we still want to continue to have a personality on defense that we are not going to give up the big play. That's very, very important.”

CJF is *still* pushing Saquon Barkley as a special teams returner

Kevin Givens might be a big deal at end— “Typically you have under-sized guys that have tremendous quickness, but they can get overpowered at times. Kevin is pound-for-pound probably one of the strongest guys on our team, and on top of that, he's got tremendous quickness and athleticism for that position...Sometimes length is a factor at those defensive line positions, as well, when you're going against offensive linemen with really long arms. But Kevin, his hand placement is excellent, and he's able to really get leverage from his height and also from his hand placement. And you combine that with his quickness, his athleticism and his strength, and he's been a problem [for the offensive line].”

On what Kent State’s defensive game plan might be— “I think they are going to go into the game saying ‘we're going to overload the box, take Saquon Barkley out of it as much as we can and force a new quarterback to beat us.’ So we've spent a lot of time working on those type of schemes. There are a lot of different approaches that you could take.” The Golden Flashes have a good returning defense, and Franklin wants to mitigate that.

The redshirt sophomore will make his first collegiate start against Kent State on September 3.

After three full seasons of Christian Hackenberg at the helm, Penn State fans knew they would have a new starting quarterback to scrutinize heading into the 2016 season. They just didn’t know exactly who that guy would be... until today. Following Wednesday’s practice, Penn State head coach James Franklin named Trace McSorley as his new first-string signal caller.

"It was a combination of factors. It was spring practice. It was the bowl game," Franklin said. But "it was a difficult decision."

If we’re just looking at what McSorley did in last January’s TaxSlayer Bowl and the Blue-White scrimmage in April, the decision seems easy. While substituting for Hackenberg as a redshirt freshman in the game formerly known as the Gator Bowl, McSorley went 14-for-27 for 142 yards and two touchdowns against a Georgia defense that was one of the best in the SEC.

Nittany Lion fans did not see the Ashburn, Virginia native in action again until the spring game, when he impressed with 281 passing yards and four touchdowns, albeit against Penn State’s backup defenders.

Ultimately, the decision came down to McSorley or Tommy Stevens, the redshirt freshman out of Indianapolis. Franklin went with the more experienced player. We’ll see how that works out when McSorley makes his first ever start as a Nittany Lion on September 3 against Kent State.

A while back, you might remember a column that the Post-Gazette's Ron Cook wrote in which he declared that Pitt was tops among the local major programs, including Penn State and West Virginia. Add another that says the Panthers are ahead of their in-state rival Nittany Lions - CBS Sports:

Pennsylvania: Pittsburgh -- Luckily we get to see this one settled on the field on Sept. 10 as the two in-state foes will renew their rivalry in Heinz Field. Pat Narduzzi's changes around the facility and within the program have given us reason to believe a switch is about to be flipped, and it's not crazy to think that Pitt will not only win the in-state battle but finish with more wins and a better conference finish than the Nittany Lions.

As I said at the time of Cook's article, I believe that as of right now (meaning, this instant), that's a true statement. I think that Pitt is ahead of Penn State as a program right now, even if only slightly. For the record, I think the difference is pretty negligible. Further driving that home was the early betting line of Pitt as nine-point favorites against Penn State that was released earlier this year.

This isn't to say, of course, that the Panthers have had the better program historically or certainly in the past 30 years. But in terms of the better team right here, right now, I think it's Pitt and others seem to be leaning that way, too.

But as discussed in the article, the good thing is we'll get to see these two programs on the field. That should go a long way to telling us who's ahead at the moment.

Like there was even a doubt who would be our 42.

Michael Mauti probably would have become one of the great Penn State linebackers, in the pantheon of that position at LBU, anyway. A legacy whose dad, Rich, played in Happy Valley and whose brother, Patrick, was a wideout for the Nittany Lions, Mauti committed on the spot to Joe Paterno (to his father’s chagrin) during an on-campus visit, a four star linebacker and the number one player in the state of Louisiana in the 2008 recruiting class.

He probably would have been a great player anyway, but Mauti solidified his status in the Penn State history books when this happened:

[embedded content]

After the NCAA sanctions were imposed in the summer of 2012, Mauti was a galvanizing force on the sidelines and field, keeping the bulk of the Penn State squad together and giving the PSU community hope and faith in the future.

He parlayed that into a successful 2012 senior season, despite being injured to end his season in an ugly chop block against Indiana, and his teammates recognized his impact by wearing his number on their helmets to end their season—and fellow linebacker Gerald Hodges wore his number in that glorious season-ender against Wisconsin.

Mauti was drafted in 2013 by the Vikings, taken in the 7th round (213th overall) to play with Hodges. After two seasons of special teams and mop up duty, he left for his hometown New Orleans Saints, where he’s made much more of an immediate impact—he played 16 games last year, starting two, and logged more tackles than his two years in Minnesota combined.

And, in true Mauti fashion, he’s giving back to the community that he grew up in.

Another day, another Penn State player recognized among the nation's best.

To the surprise of few, junior wide receiver Chris Godwin has been named to the watch list for the Biletnikoff Award, given annually to the best pass-catcher in college football.

Godwin enjoyed a remarkable breakout season as a true sophomore in 2015, collecting 69 catches for 1,101 receiving yards and five touchdowns. He was only the third player in program history to reach the 1,000- receiving yards milestone, joining Penn State greats Bobby Engram and Allen Robinson. Engram is the only Nittany Lion to receive the Biletnikoff Award during Penn State's undefeated 1994 squad that featured one of the best offenses in college football history.

Is it September 3 yet?? Congratulations and best of luck, Chris!

The junior tight end is listed among the best tight ends in the nation for the annual award.

You can add tight end Mike Gesicki's name to the growing list of Penn State players being recognized in preseason watch lists. The junior was among the 45 tight ends named to the watch list for the John Mackey Award, given annually to the nation's top tight end. Gesicki joins Michigan's Jake Butt, Nebraska's Cethan Carter, Iowa's George Kittle, Minnesota's Brandon Lingen and Michigan State's Josiah Price as the Big Ten athletes to receive recognition for the award.

Gesicki was maligned by drops and inconsistent play last year, but will have an opportunity to see his role increase this year with the departure of Kyle Carter and Brent Wilkerson. Last year, in his sophomore season, Gesicki had 13 catches for 125 yards and 1 touchdown - not exactly what fans were hoping for.

A four-star recruit, and one of the top tight-ends in his class, fans have been looking forward to seeing Gesicki's athleticism and ability to create mismatches for opposing defenses. There have been flashes of his raw ability, but a struggling offense hasn't helped with his numbers and usage. With a new offensive coordinator, and a new QB with a softer arm, many are looking forward to seeing Gesicki grow into a more prominent role on the offense. It seems for the past three years we have been prepared for one of Penn State's to contend for the Mackey Award, and here's hoping that Gesicki is able to stay healthy and feature in the game plan enough to be named a finalist.

Auburn will visit Beaver Stadium on September 18, 2021, and the Nittany Lions return the trip to Jordan-Hare Stadium on September 17, 2022.

The AD also announced games against Buffalo in 2019 and Ball State in 2021. This will be the fourth meeting between Buffalo and Penn State, while the Ball State game will mark the first meeting between the two teams.

With the addition of Buffalo, the schedules through the 2019 season are now complete. Here’s what the upcoming OOC schedules will look like:

Last week, LaVar Arrington took to his facebook page to speak to Penn Staters, and to put in words what many of us have felt in the nearly five years since the Sandusky scandal first came to wide public light. Of the many things that Arrington voiced, one struck me the most; after the scandal, Arrington felt that

"The second someone ask me where I went to college I instantly anticipate what the next question will be.

We've been made fun of, insulted, frowned upon.

I'm sick of it, there's nothing wrong with the pride and dignity we hold in our hearts

for our school. I felt guilty to be proud of who I am and what I represent as a PSU'er."

He went on to decry that feeling--to express that he's still "trying to find peace within" everything that happened, but that we shouldn't feel guilty. We shouldn't feel guilty for loving our school and our community and for wearing the Blue and the White, for continuing to support a place and the people that have given and continue to give us so much.

"It falls on us to continue to restore and revive what PSU means. No matter how many "stories" accuse or condemn, ultimately We Are the ones that possess the true power to tell our story!" - LaVar Arrington

Virtually immediately after the stories started breaking, after Joe Paterno was fired and Tim Curley and Gary Schultz and eventually Graham Spanier were charged, we as a community became more insular. We almost started to become what outsiders always decried we were--but how could we not be? Living outside of central Pennsylvania, I witness firsthand all of the uneducated people who simply sneered at any PSU memorabilia, not knowing anything beyond the basic media bulled points, and it was simply easier to want to associate with fellow Penn Staters who would get it. I lost friends, people who I had known for years, because they wouldn't (or perhaps couldn't) think beyond what was widely publicized, and I definitely couldn't get beyond my stance that there was more that was being portrayed in media and I wanted to wait for all of the facts to come out before we made a definitive stance on anyone's involvement beyond Jerry Sandusky's. I still hold to that initial stance, though my views have evolved; I no longer believe we will ever find out everything. And, in the echo chamber that is today's media landscape, I'm not so sure that if the true "facts" came out, it would make much of a difference.

But the point of this column is not to digress into a rehashing of IT. It's not to finger point, to come out on the side of the Alumni Association or Franco Harris on this latest bout of infighting amongst Penn Staters. We should be trying to rise above it--to try to acknowledge our differences, yes, but to agree on common ground.

It's to say that above all else--whatever infighting, whatever factions may exist, we have to remember one thing: we all love Penn State. We are all Penn Staters. We all hold that "pride and dignity" that LaVar speaks of, whether we are alumni of the University or not, and in my view that is for good reason.

Football may be the face of Penn State; it may be the cash cow that drives donations, that helps our University be great in so many other ways. Football drew attention to a small town in central Pennsylvania, and turned a farmer's high school into a renowned Land Grant University. But now? It's just the barest tip of the iceberg in terms of what makes Penn State a place I'm proud to be a part of, and to love.

I could make a laundry list of what I love about Penn State, of why I come back every fall Saturday, some weekends in the winter, on Blue White weekend, and why I'll be back in July for Arts Fest. Many of you named your favorite traditions, and what draws you back, a week ago. This list is far from complete, and would grow exponentially every year.

But despite all of the physical and near-superficial (in my everyday life, at least) things on that list, the one thing that would top it would absolutely be the people.

The community that was in many ways forced to become somewhat insular over the past five years has become for so many of us a salvation, and, in reality, our extended family.

My "real" family is, as many of you know, all Penn Staters (including those who didn't attend the University; I'm not one of those who believes that to be a Penn Stater, you must have attended the school). I'm lucky in that regard, as they can understand my burning passion (and some might say insanity) for all things Penn State and Penn State athletics. But the thing about PSU that so many outside of the community, that LaVar hits so well on in his post, is that we are all family--and truly, "only those who lived it can understand it".

The Penn State family, despite our infighting even on these and other boards and sometimes even in person, is one that I'm proud to call my own. I'm proud to go abroad and see the chipmunk logo on a fellow traveler's hat, call out a "WE ARE" across a crowed train and get a surprised, but excited, PENN STATE in response. It's going on vacation to a place I go every year, and find another family full of Penn Staters and have a discussion over which family is cooler--because we're simply trying to out-Nittany Lion each other.

It's why I tailgate; my extended Penn State family, my friends who've become so much a part of not just football life but life life, make even the worst on-field performances worth the trek. As we say at the end of every season, through the rain and the snow and the lost children who wander our way and the port-a-potty attendants who try to shut our party down, we're still undefeated in tailgating.

Penn State is about the people. It's something most other communities simply don't get. We're still around, and we thrived despite change. As now-Detroit Lion Anthony Zettel said regarding what the University has been through, "I think it's the best school out there, and not a lot of schools could overcome that."

The people are why we Thon. It’s why there’s Lift for Life. It’s why PSU is one of the country’s most LGBTQ-friendly schools.

There's been so much change at Penn State and PSU sports in the past five years. And with the Lasch Building upgrades and the impending upgrades to Beaver Stadium and the BJC off the field, and new offensive and defensive coordinators on the field for James Franklin this year, the change is likely to continue. But change isn't necessarily a bad thing.

As a great coach once said, "You're gonna get better or you're gonna get worse, but you're not gonna stay the same. Which will it be?"

I choose better.

Just 86 more days until Penn State faces off against the Kent State Golden Flashes!!

There are no players on the current roster who wear number 86, which gives us a perfect opportunity to reflect on one of the most fearsome defenders ever to play at Penn State. Courtney Brown was the Gatorade National Player of the Year coming out Alvin, South Carolina and made an immediate impact as a freshman, playing tackle and tight end. But he found his calling as an utterly dominant defensive end from 1997-1999. He would go on to shatter the records for career sacks and tackles for loss at Penn State, as teams where basically helpless in keeping him out of the backfield.

Brown would eventually go on to be the first overall pick in the NFL draft, but never found his footing during a six-year career in the pros where he played for the Cleveland Browns and Denver Broncos. Although he is often labeled as a bust, Brown did play very well when healthy and showed huge potential to as an elite pass-rusher. Unfortunately, he just couldn't stay on the field despite never missing any time with injuries throughout his career at Penn State.

On a personal level, Brown is near the top of my favorite all-time Nittany Lions. His sheer dominance was an utter joy to watch each Saturday, and he had a knack for saving his best performances in Penn State's biggest games. He also inspired me to wear number 86 as a high school football player, although it's safe to say I elicited exactly zero of the fear in opponents as Brown did in his playing days.

Just 86 more days until we watch Penn State in action!

College BattleGround on Getting to Know 2017 Penn State Commit Damion Barber

The big defensive end out of Harrisburg is excited and ready to become a Nittany Lion.

When Penn State held its Junior Day back in late February, they expected to lay the groundwork for at least a few potential commitments, even if said commitments didn't become official until later on. Instead, they were able to secure verbal commitments on the spot from not one, not two, but three defensive ends in 2018's Micah Parsons, and 2017's Damion Barber and Yetur Matos.

All three are vitally important commitments, as bringing pressure off the edge is the easiest way to build a dominant defense in today's college football landscape. The aforementioned Barber, should be a huge asset in that area.

Barber, a three-star player according to the 247Composite ratings, brings some serious pass-rushing potential to the Nittany Lions. The No. 9 player in Pennsylvania has all the tools to become a monster off the edge for Penn State, and could have a very long, rewarding career in Happy Valley.

Along with being a stud on the football field, he's extremely well-ground off of it. When asked about what led him to commit to the Nittany Lions, and what he was most looking forward to, the first things he cited were the relationships built with the coaching staff and the players on campus, and the education that awaits him.

Though other schools are still coming after him, trying to flip him from Penn State, he knows what he wants.

I know where my heart is committed to. I still talk to [other schools], but Coach Spence and Coach Pry know that I'm not leaving.

Being from the Harrisburg area, Barber is right in the middle of the recruiting grounds that Penn State absolutely has to dominate in order to continue standing as the premier program in the state. There is plenty of talent in the area in the 2017 class, but there is potentially even more in the 2018 class. One of said players, the five-star Parsons, is already a member of the 2018 class. Another big-time target to join Parsons, however, is Barber's teammate, four-star wide receiver Shaquon Anderson-Butts.

My bro, Shaquan Butts, my teammate. I recruit him every day. Possibly he'll end up here. He wants to see about when I get up there, so when I get back I'll talk to him about it.

Since committing, Barber has spent a lot of time keeping touch with both his future teammates and his future coaches. He says that the 2017 class talks "most every day" and that he is particularly certain to talk to fellow defensive end commit Yetur Matos every day.

the coaching staff has confirmed with him that he will stick at defensive end at Penn State, and that they want him to continue to work on his three-point stance, and well as how to use his hips to explode off the line. Overall, it sounds like they're grooming him to be a pure, pass-rushing nightmare for opposing quarterbacks.

Barber is also optimistic about the future of Penn State. While he acknowledged that momentum around the program is pretty much non-existent right now as most people sit in "wait-and-see mode" for the new offense, he's excited about what's coming.

I think Penn State got something coming this year, and they'll have a better year than last year.

Damion's next chance to check out (and recruit for) Penn State will come in mid-July when he's in town for the famous Lasch Bash. Until then, chances are you'll find him in his backyard, running himself through the drills the coaches have suggested to him over and over until he's ready to don the blue and white.

There are just 92 days left.

You thought we were done with special teams this week? Well, guess again!

Junior punter Daniel Pasquariello has been punting for parts of each of the last two seasons at Penn State. The left-footed Pasquariello started in 9 games in 2015, playing in 11 of them, while Chris Gulla punted when Pasquariello was not in the game. He averaged 39 yards per punt in 2015, and has a career long of 63 yards which he set in 2014, the same season he recorded his first and so far only tackle. Pasquariello is the team's lone Australian player, as he hails from Melbourne, Victoria.

Expect Pasquariello to be in a position battle with true freshman scholarship punter Blake Gillikin, who will likely fight with Pasquariello and Gulla for playing time right off the bat as he joins the team for summer practices.

Only 92 days until the first game of the 2016 Penn State Nittany Lions football season.
