Over the weekend, the Mountaineers gained two more important recruits for the 2017 class.

The West Virginia Mountaineer football family is growing. Over the weekend, two more players decided to call Morgantown their home for the next four years. West Virginia also made the top 7 of a three-star Florida wide receiver.

Alex Woods (Lackawanna CC, Scranton, PA)

The Mountaineers have found a feeder college and then some. When the Mountaineers joined the Big 12, they gained something on the East Coast that no one else has. The ability to play Texas, Oklahoma, Baylor, Oklahoma State and TCU on a yearly basis. No one else on the East Coast can say that. When the Mountaineers stroll into Lackawanna Community College and speak to recruits they can point to the Big 12, the wide open offenses they play and the wide open offense they use, and tell recruits you can play now and make it to the NFL. Kevin White’s success has translated into multiple other recruits joining WVU.

The latest Lackawanna to West Virginia recruit is Alex Woods, a 6′-2″ cornerback originally from Durham, NC. The Mountaineers have been very familiar with Alex Woods. Woods was teammates with former WVU running back Donte Thomas-Williams. Both were recruited heavily by WVU for the 2014 class. Woods took the longer route to WVU but after visiting over the weekend, he chose to end his recruiting process.

Woods is the 27th overall JUCO prospect and the #4 JUCO cornerback. Woods is a three-star composite player for 247 sports. Alex marks the fourth committment for West Virginia in the 2017 cycle. The previous committs are:

Eugene Brown (Stone Mountain, GA)

Brown is a 6′-0, 190 pound safety out of Stephenson High School in Stone Mountain, Georgia. Brown says he models himself after former Mountaineer and Oakland Raider first round selection Karl Joseph. Watching his highlight tape, you can see it. Brown has that hammer meets nail quality in his tackles. Many of the tackles are causing the opposing player to leave his feet in a hurry.

Rated as a three-star prospect, Brown had several offers from Cincinatti, Rutgers and Wake Forest. Brown was rated the #8 safety in Georgia and the 74th safety nationally. Eugene’s commitment brings the Mountaineers total up to five and the 64th ranked class, as ranked by 247 sports. The Mountaineers’ class is currently ranked 8th in the Big 12.

Emmanuel Greene (Bradenton, FL)

Three star wide receiver Emmanuel Greene narrowed his recruiting list Sunday to seven teams and WVU was on that list. Greene stands 5′-10″ and only 170 pounds but he shows an elusiveness to his game, often slipping through and out of tackles. He flashes great speed. Greene is used both as a slot receiver and as an outside receiver, along with returning kicks. He shows an aggressiveness to his kick returns, actively seeking the ball and attacking a path quickly and decisively.  247 lists Greene as most warm on Louisville, UCF and West Virginia. Greene is being recruited by JaJuan Seider.
