The former Miami tight end has signed with the Scarlet Knights.

Rutgers football has continued its strong recruiting ways, as former Miami tight end Jerome Washington will transfer to the Scarlet Knights.

NJ.com’s Todderick Hunt originally reported that Washington’s commitment was imminent. He also broke the news today.

The 6-5, 262-pounder played one season with the Hurricanes, appearing in nine games. He primarily played on special teams, recording just one catch for 13 yards.

Washington is originally from Elizabeth, NJ, but went to high school at the Stony Brook School in New York. He wasn’t highly recruited in high school, receiving just one scholarship offer from St. Francis (PA). He opted to forgo that offer, ending up at Connecticut prep school The Gunnery in 2013.

After one year at The Gunnery, he transferred to New Jersey’s Mercer County Community College. While there, he played for Trenton-based club team Gattaca during the 2014 season. There, he thrived, catching 24 passes for 510 yards and eight touchdowns.

His success with Gattaca earned him widespread recognition as one of the top JUCO players available. 247Sports lists him as a four-star recruit, and the 19th-ranked JUCO prospect of the 2015 class. He committed The U in November 2014.

Washington committed to Miami under head coach Al Golden, who was let go last October after failing to live up to the Hurricanes’ lofty expectations. The program announced in February that Washington was granted his release from the program to pursue other options.

Under NCAA rules, Washington will have to sit out the 2016 season. After that, he will have three years to play two.

At Rutgers, Washington will join a tight end corps that consists of Matt Flanagan, Charles Scarff, George Behr, and Nakia Griffin-Stewart. Nick Arcidiacono is set to graduate after the 2016 season.

Washington’s role on the 2017 squad is obviously hard to predict this early, but his size could make him a great red zone threat and could give the Scarlet Knights a dominating presence as a blocker on the outside.

You can take a look at Washington’s Gattaca film right here.

Welcome to The Banks, Jerome!
