The Cowboys picked up another verbal commitment Sunday from Spencer Misko from Keller HS (Keller, TX).

The buzz has been that he is being recruited as a tight end to fill a role as a Cowboy Back. However, Misko is listed as both a defensive end and tight end and is pictured above with defensive line coach Joe Bob Clements.

But offensive coordinator Mike Yurcich seems to have claimed him for the offense.

Oklahoma State did not take one scholarship player for the Cowboy Back position either of the last two years. (Two years ago Blake Jarwin was moved from walk-on to scholarship. This year two wide receivers will move over to Cowboy Back.)

So here’s the rub on Misko. At 6-foot-4.5, 224-pounds, he’s got the size you look for in a tight end. Per 247Sports, he tallied 27 tackles as a junior, to go along with four sacks, seven tackles for loss and a recovered fumble, again playing a defensive end.

His versatility is his strength. According to an article with Scout, Misko played tight end prior to high school. Here is Misko when asked about playing on the offensive side of the ball.

“Everybody tells me I look like a tight end and I could be one, so I could see myself being an offensive player at tight end.”

Misko holds offers from Kansas State and Illinois State, among others, presumably at defensive end. He had also taken a visit to Austin.

The coaching staff will look to develop this under-the-radar prospect. If he has good hands he could be a steal at the Cowboy Back position.
